...what can go wrong?

This is by far the strangest thing that I have ever done. I have taken up the religious habit of the Capuchin Franciscans. Here’s what a typical person might say about me: “Why would any healthy, (mostly) sane young adult male start walking down this path? And at the age of 19? Surely he must realize that this is the 21st century. These days, commitment is rare among youth and religious practice is even rarer...and that’s to say nothing of religious commitment!” To be honest, I’m often at a loss for answers...

Head for the Hills!

Part of Mussoorie from a distance. As I mentioned at the end of my previous blog, I soon left the Jyoti Niketan Minor Seminary in Masuri for the city of Mussoorie, located at the base of the Himalayas. This was the site of the first Novitiate in Northern India, founded by the Tuscany Capuchins, who first helped implant the Capuchin Order in Northern India. But maybe what I really want is the relationship of Jesus and the prayer life I have formed. The Novitiate life is heavily involved with prayer throughout the day and in...

23 Invested as Capuchin Novices in Santa Ynez, California

In a very joyful but simple ceremony, 23 men from across North America, Guam, and Australia were invested as Capuchin novices at San Lorenzo Capuchin Novitiate in Santa Ynez, California on Sunday afternoon, July 21st. They included four novices for the Midwest Capuchins: Fernando Iñiguez, Joseph Taylor, Luis Reyes, and Joshua Minden. Their classmate from postulancy, Truong Dinh, was invested as a novice last Thursday at St. Lawrence Friary in Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin by special arrangement with the Capuchin Minister General. The Santa Ynez novitiate gathers together the novices of the North America and Pacific Capuchin Conference (NAPCC), which has...
